Hopkins Public Schools was awarded a Silver Level Magna Award from the National School Boards Association for its Royal Reps and Royal Connections program. School Board Directors Steve Adams and Rachel Hartland attended the April conference, held in San Diego, in person and accepted the award on behalf of Hopkins Public Schools.
NSBA’s Magna award recognizes school districts using innovative and creative approaches to produce strong student outcomes. The 2022 awards program focused on equity in education. There were 15 schools nationwide who received Silver Magna Awards along with Hopkins Public Schools. Hopkins was one of two Minnesota districts to receive the award. School Board Chair Jen Bouchard nominated Hopkins for the award.
The Hopkins Public Schools Royal Reps program began in 2018. Royal Reps led community engagement efforts that informed Hopkins Public Schools’ strategic plan, Vision 2031. The program evolved in 2020 and now includes a partnership with community education and was renamed Royal Connection. Royal Connection scholars serve as tutors for programs and teach classes in community education.
