About Us

Kids & Company is Hopkins Public Schools' premier before- and after-school care program for students in kindergarten through fifth-grade. A fee-based program, Kids & Company is offered in five of the District's six elementary schools. As well as limited locations on non-school days.

BLinK (Building Leadership in Kids) offers before and after school programming for middle school students in grades sixth - eighth grade at North Middle School. Students attending West Middle School are eligible for care and may take the activity bus to NMS.

Approval of School Year Contracts:

Contract approvals will begin the week of May 18, 2026. Families will receive an email notification once their contract has been approved.
Families who are placed on the waitlist will receive communication beginning July 1, 2026.

Last date to make changes to School Year schedules without fees: August 15, 2026

If you anticipate needing child care before or after school next year, we strongly encourage you to submit your request as soon as possible. If you're not sure which school your student will be attending, please submit for multiple schools, especially if you are on a wait list for a preferred school.

Registration Process

If more contracts are requested than are available at a specific site, a random computerized lottery will be held. There will be no preference given based on date of contract request submission. Registration process details are available here.

Note

Your account must be in good standing with all Hopkins Community Education programs in order to register for a current or upcoming summer or school year program. Your contract request will be placed on hold until payment has been received in full.

Morning Care Updates (2026–2027):

After reviewing enrollment trends and daily attendance patterns across our elementary sites, Kids & Company will be shifting to a morning care hub model beginning in the 2026-27 school year.

Glen Lake and Tanglen Families: Morning care will be available at Eisenhower Elementary, 1001 MN Highway 7. Families using morning care at Eisenhower must drop off by 7:05 AM. Students will then be transported to Glen Lake or Tanglen by Hopkins Public Schools transportation. Afternoon care at Glen Lake and Tanglen will remain at the school site and will continue until 6pm.

Gatewood Elementary: Students who need before school and/or after school care may attend the Kids & Company program at Alice Smith Elementary, 801 Minnetonka Mills Rd. Families using morning care must drop off by 8:55 AM. Students will be transported to Gatewood Elementary by Hopkins Public Schools transportation.

Schedule Changes

Log in to your account and click on your current contract. Under contract management, click on Change Schedule. You will not be able to make changes if the month has been invoiced; the system will show you the schedule change date. Schedule changes are intended for adjustments to a consistent, ongoing schedule. Individual day removals are not permitted.
A $20 schedule-change fee will be assessed for each accepted contract request.

No refunds, credits, or swapping of days will be given for absences, weather cancellations/closures, or canceled field trips.

Non-School Days 2026-27 (Grades K-5)

Contract Request

Registration for 2026-27 Non-School Days will open in two phases:

July 6, 2026: Requests open for September–January dates
January 4, 2027: Requests open for February–May dates

Non-School Day (NSD) Childcare Approval Policy

To ensure equity for all families and to remain within required student-to-staff ratios, Kids & Company is updating the process for approving Non-School Day (NSD) childcare.

Approval Timeline

NSD childcare is approved one month in advance, based on available staffing ratios.
Families will be notified around the 16th of the month prior if NSD request is approved.
Because staff-to-student ratio requirements, approvals cannot be made earlier than the month before the NSD date.

Account Standing

Accounts must be in good standing for NSD requests to be approved. Requests cannot be approved if an account is past due.

Request & Cancellation Responsibilities

Families are responsible for requesting only the dates they need.
Families must cancel any requested dates they no longer need in their online account, by the 15th of the month prior to not be charged.
No refunds or credits will be issued once NSD dates are approved.

Attendance Expectations for Approved NSD Care

Consistent attendance is required for all contracted NSD schedules to support accurate staffing.
If a youth is absent for three (3) or more scheduled NSD days, approval for future Non-School Day care may be denied.
